Please take your time to read this story opening, then answer the poll above - what do you think? Then once you have read it please scroll down to the bottom:

I was quite a carefree person. But take a note of that word “was”. I have changed now. I have changed a lot.
It was the 5th of January – and it was freezing. The windows had been glazed in a frosty coating that looked like tiny diamonds setting on the pane. Of course the Christmas holidays were over, and we were all telling (and some boasting) each other what we received for Christmas. Many people got glossy touch screen phones, and music players with built in video recording. I got a watch. It was a pretty cool watch though. It was red and the face itself was huge. It’s roman numerals were inscribed in thick black print. The curved hands glided over the intervals effortlessly. My old watch struggled to keep up with the actual time – once I was twenty minutes late to school because of it! But back to the main story line. Its not a particularly pleasant story line, however it’s the story. Don’t like a bit of action? Then put this book down please. You should have read the blurb. Or the opening paragraph. Didn’t your teacher advise you to do that at school? Check if the genre fits your liking? Obviously not. But, if you do like action – welcome. Although this doesn’t seem like an action story. Ho-ho, just you wait.

I wrapped up warm in my red scarf and gloves, and slipped on a furry cap. As the heavy oak door clunked shut, I began wading through the snow to get to school. Snow fascinated me. We don’t get it much however when we do I cherish that wet yet fluffy feeling of it. I especially love it when you pack it up tight, or squeeze it in your hand. That errr-unch sound – just like when you grind your teeth. It satisfies me. I arrived at school a ridiculous half-hour early as my new watch was too fast. In fact, if I had kept my old watch I wouldn’t be as paranoid and insecure as I am now.
A few minutes after I came a couple of my friends turned up. They weren’t my “friends” as such, but they were in my form. They looked at me then turned to speak amongst themselves. I hated being that unpopular one, the one that always had to face being giggled-behind-backs at and even though most of the time the giggling wasn’t about me. I sighed. Cold mist flew out my mouth like an ice dragon. I blew again. With more force this time. A jet of misty air shot out my mouth. Suddenly one of the teachers said quietly “Would you like to come in and proceed to your form room please.” I nodded. The others stayed in a rugby huddle giggling and saying “No way, seriously!?” As I said, I was quite a carefree person, and I blocked out that fact that the no way-ing was about me. Because it wasn’t. I wasn’t even that popular to be spoken about. The playground was packed tight with snow, just under my knees. I was wearing green welly-boots that I got for Christmas as well, and they were really cozy inside. I was alright. I may not be popular, but I’m quite happy with my watch and my boots.
A small wind picked up, and my dark hair whipped across my frozen face.
